DD Tarp Review
I often get asked about what kit I use when running bushcraft courses for Wildway, so here is a little review on the 3×3 DD Tarp.
The guys at Wildway Bushcraft have been using the DD 3×3 Tarp for a while now and I thought I would let you know our thoughts. The tarp has been used in all weather conditions through out the year for all of our bushcraft courses in Dorset and Hampshire and we are very impressed.
The DD Tarp replaced a standard issue British Forces one which I had been using for the past few years. The first thing I noticed was how light it was in comparison, which is always a nice thing when you have to carry it around all the time! All packed up with the ridge line and guy cord attached ours weighed in at 900g The standard issue one weighed in at 978g on its own!
Made from 190T polyester with PU 3,000mm coating with taped seams, the DD 3×3 Tarp, as you would expect, is completely waterproof. I have used the tarp in some horrendous down pours and hand on heart it has held up to everything the weather can throw at it.
The tarp comes with 16 attachment points which are reinforced, these have proven to be quite strong and have not shown any wear issues at all. It also comes with 3 attachment loops on the centre line of the tarp, on my set up these just hold the ridge line but you can use these in many different ways.
On our weekend bushcraft course I use this tarp with a hammock set up. It has ample room to provide complete protection for my hammock and I am 6 foot 4! I also have loads of room left over to sit and make a brew, cover my kit and keep everything nice and dry.
Selling at £35 I think its great value when you compare it to other tarps for sale.
It’s hard to see how this could be improved to be fair. The tarp comes with pegs and a couple of guy lines which is a bonus, however I have never used them, but they would come in handy if you were setting it up for ground use.
Overall I think this is a great bit of kit, versatile, cost effective and great quality. The guys at DD Hammocks have always provided me and Wildway Bushcraft with great customer service and are always happy to give advice and answer any questions about their products.
Simply put, its now a firm favourite here at Wildway Bushcraft!
